A Whole New Mind – a whole new world
A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink describes the dawning of the ‘Conceptual Age’.
Just as information workers surpassed physical labourers in economic importance, Pink claims, the workplace terrain is changing yet again, and power will inevitably shift to people who possess strong right-brain qualities – inventiveness, empathy, meaning.
According to Pink, the keys to success are in developing and cultivating six senses: design, story, symphony, empathy, play, and meaning.
Of particular interest is ‘Symphony’: “What’s in greatest demand today isn’t analysis but synthesis – seeing the big picture and, crossing boundaries, being able to combine disparate pieces into an arresting whole.” (Pink 2005:66)
Building our research, analysis, synthesis and reporting skills will ensure we have the capabilities needed in the future economy and society.
